What the Picture Revealed is an autobiography of my first 74 years. Growing up in New York City in the forties and fifties was filled with many ups and downs. The city was my family's own personal playground (and necessary distraction) with all of its cultural advantages at our doorstep.
I grew up in a one-bedroom apartment in NYC with a bipolar father from Germany, a passive yet loving mother from New York and a younger brother. My maternal grandmother (whom I secretly nicknamed Gertie-the-Witch) was a very controlling presence in our home. Devoted aunts and uncles were key positive figures during my young years. After I got married fifty-one years ago, my husband and later my three children became central to my life.
What the Picture Revealed will allow you a window into how life really was and is -- a far more empowering one than pretending how things ought to be.
